Sunday Currently: Volume 22

The tastes and colors of summer (fresh watermelon and ice water with lemon and basil).

Reading nothing at the moment because a few hours ago I finished reading The Light Between Oceans and it was absolutely exquisite. The end had me sobbing at a few points and running to give my husband big hugs. You'll understand why if you read it, which I highly recommend you do. It's a deeply moving story.

Writing this as well as a post for Happy Wives Club.

Listening to one of my favorite recordings of the Goldberg Variations.

Thinking that I will take this lull in my book reading to catch up on the Notre Dame Magazine we got in the mail.

Smelling lemon and basil.

Wishing my parents a fun getaway in Canada! They deserve this little trip.

Hoping for another thunderstorm tonight. Yesterday's storm lulled me right to sleep.

Drinking that yummy flavored ice water pictured above.

Wearing bright red shorts and a neutral v-neck knit shirt.

Loving the feeling of being reinvigorated. I've been having so much fun practicing and learning new pieces lately, and I'm thankful for that. Sometimes I don't feel quite so inspired.

Wanting tolix chairs. I think they have such a fun, retro, industrial look to them. I would love to own several someday. They're quite pricey usually but I just found one in this style for a fantastic price on the Atlanta craigslist page, and I'm negotiating with the owner to pay for it now and pick it up in a few weeks! I plan to use it as my "teaching chair" and I think it will look awesome against the dark wood of my piano.

Needing to figure out how to use Spotify. Any tips for me?

Feeling deeply moved. I think this book will stick with me for a long time.

Clicking on this frightening article I read yesterday. Not everyone will agree with me, but I found so many of the quotes by the women who were interviewed to be quite crass and very sad. It even seemed like the journalist was surprised by some of the things these women said.

p.s. Have you entered my one-year blog anniversary/favorite things giveaway? You can check out the box I'm giving away by clicking the link above, and to enter simply leave a comment at the end of the post! I will pick a winner this Friday. Thank you!

(Linking up with Lauren!)

  1. I'm putting this book on my "to read" list. Love the Tolix chairs...very Chipotle-ish :-)
Regarding the's sad...I can't believe people (women) act in that manner. Is there anything wrong w/ being traditional anymore?

  2. I don't know if all Target stores offer the same items but I saw tolix style chairs last week. $99 for 2! They are the style with arms, if that makes sense. Have a wonderful Sunday. Rachel

  3. You'll love the book. It's incredible. And you know, I've only been to Chipotle a few times but I sort of do remember the metal chairs now that you mention it! :)

The article really is sad. It's just shocking how these women separate their emotions from their encounters with men. It just seems like they're treating themselves with so little respect, you know?

  4. Ah thanks Rachel! You know, I did see them there and I think that's what subconsciously spurred my search for them. I really want a collection of the non-armchair style tolix chairs eventually, and Target I think only has the ones with arms. But I do love these stools that are part of that same collection.

So amazing. I'm keeping these in mind :) Hope you have a wonderful Sunday too.

  5. Basil in water...what a great idea! What piano pieces are you working on that you're feeling excited about? By the way happy one year blog!

Next time I hope it's YOU who makes the trip north. Canada awaits :)

  7. Thanks Sarah! I'm working on Myra Hess' arrangement of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and Schubert's B-Major Sonata.

  8. I know! Me too. We had planned a mini-honeymoon right after our wedding to Montreal that didn't materialize, so it's still on our list. Is that anywhere near you? :)

  9. Thunderstorms are perfect at night. I also really want to read this book now! It sounds interesting.

  10. It's so interesting, so beautiful. You'll love it.

  11. I just read the synopsis for that novel. It sounds good! I really need to finish Catch-22 (though I love it so much!) so I can move on to other good reads. Also, that watermelon looks delicious...

  12. i'm wishing for more thunderstorms around here, too. for a while, we had them for weeks solid, but we haven't had one in a while. they soothe me!

  13. We have a thunderstorm coming this afternoon, and I think I'll put on the Goldberg Variations when it hits!

That article frustrates and saddens me to no end. What's the point in having fought for the freedom and the safety for women to make choices about their own bodies if they're going to make choices that make them unhappy? Just because you CAN do these things doesn't mean you always should.
