I enjoyed this cute article on how to decorate your home in a way that will make both you and your husband happy. Luckily, we don't have much of a problem with this, at least so far, in our own home. My husband likes my taste (hooray!) and has good taste himself. We both prefer an eclectic style--antique family heirlooms mixed with DIY pieces mixed with a touch of modern and bit of rustic charm. We are opposed to furniture sets, Ikea excursions, and most brand-new pieces. It also helps that my taste really leans toward neutrals and simplicity when it comes to decorating. I don't have a super "girly" style, I don't really like pink, or ruffles, or overly feminine patterns. I think that timeless colors, elegant lines, and a nice combination of traditional and funky are the way to go.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed this article and think it includes some fun tips for making sure the feminine and the masculine--and the gender neutral--find a place in your home.
What's your style? And how do you balance it with your husband's taste? I'd love to know!

Ahhh I love your style:) When we first got married I went a bit crazy with color and the travel theme...our house is very cozy and almost all of our pieces are thrifted or given to us. My favorite is an old Swedish trunk my mom bought me at a swedish auction that was from an immigrant family from the 1800's. Being that i'm half swedish, it just holds so much meaning:)
ReplyDeletevery interesting article! I was very careful not to be to feminine when I decorated my condo, but luckily my decor style tends to be fairly gender neutral. My bathroom is the most feminine room in the house - it has light green walls with a cream and white shower curtain that has embroidered flowers - I had to be a little girly somewhere! But the rest of our place is very balanced - earth tones, clean lines, dark furniture, and masculine and feminine pieces.
ReplyDeleteYour Swedish trunk sounds beautiful, and sounds like something I would love too! There's something so great about second-hand, thrifted, and gifted furniture.
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom sounds cute :) I did remember that my husband commented on our bedroom curtains when I first put them up...they're sheer, white and flowy! Probably one of my more feminine picks. But like you, most of our decor is quite balanced.
ReplyDeleteI remember you writing about this Kristin. I think you've achieved a lovely balance in your home, which I'm sure your husband appreciates so very much!
ReplyDeleteWell thank you Meghan, I really appreciate this comment! It's definitely an experience to decorate "for two!" So glad you stopped by :)
